Really sorry about the pipe, hope things get sorted out soon for your sake buddy. Stay safe.

Here are some considerations I have:

1) Eliminate the "overall" rating and stick with the single leaderboards of Teams/FFA/Duels.  This way, there's no longer any reason to fear playing a ranked Circle FFA because you would only be affecting your FFA rating and not your other scores.  I'm not sure what we'd report on the inidivudal user profiles.  Either players could pick which score they want to show public (along with a symbol), the system could simply pick their favorite or most recently played game, or players could choose which score they want to view by.

2) Separate Teams leaderboard into Chosen Teams and Random Teams. This way, a randomly assigned teammate is not influencing the more skill-based chosen team game leaderboard.

3) Have a built in mechanism for detecting cheaters.  If a player has a blatantly high number of wins in too short of a time span, the system will automatically flag them as "stat-padding", note this on their profile, and remove them from the leaderboard entirely.

To be honest Ross, all of those suggestions are very good ones I'd be happy to see implemented. And may I say thank you for listening to us objectively and providing rational solutions, you never fail to impress me buddy.  :)

SPOILER - Every single player who's been around for a long time here and especially those considered by the community to be 'top' are in agreement; the ranking system is utterly pointless.

As I'm sure many of you are aware, I've recently taken to not giving 2 hoots whether a game is ranked or not. Ranked circle? Sure! Ranked random heroes against unknown newbs? Why not!

It really makes absolutely no difference since as stated multiple times, if you hang around for more than a few days you'll know who the good players are regardless of the number next to their name and it only seems to promote negativity in the community and cheating, stupid behaviour. (Not mentioning any names mostly because there's too bloody many to name.)

I'm completely in favour of chucking it out entirely or at least radically altering the current system to actually give it a feeling of worth that isn't abusable.

And to all you guys out there with 300 wins and 1 hour playing time; go die in a fire. Well done, you know how to cheat. Guess what?! Nobody gives a crap. You want to be respected here? Here's how; stay active and participate in *gasp* the community and it'll come whether you win, lose, or pray to the gods of the dice and sign infernal contracts just for that natural 20 to pop up now and then.

I haven't seen Vinman now in a long while... slightly annoying considering he's supposed to be my partner for this thing.

Meh, why aren't I passed out...?  ???

This has been the case for a while now, but it's pretty pointless unless you're testing something. You don't get a win from it. And it's also good that it's in place in preparation for the AI.

So I was just checking out the facebook page for the first time, checked out the videos and pictures, looked really fun! I'm even more jealous that I couldn't be there after seeing them.  :P

I have to say though, that picture of Ross and dies, really reminded me of Laurel and Hardy. No offense guys, I say that with affection  ;D

I pointed this out to Jig and reccomended he posted about it before any repurcussions might of came his way. I was on a few days ago and I jumped into a game in-progress to see who was playing and I see some guy calling himself; 'JIGSAW2'

I immediately thought; "uh-oh, Jig isn't multi-accounting is he?" But after watching for a few turns it was quickly apparent that whoever this was, it wasn't the Jig we know. His playstyle was completely different, he didn't respond to anything in chat and after a couple of games, he dissapeared off the radar.

I don't want anyone being accused of doing something they're not, especially Jig, who I consider a good player and a friend. (And I really hope that this was merely an innocent coincidence.)

I keep telling people this about every unit. Thanks dies  ::)

Small problem, might just be me but when I click for a closer look, I just get the map description and lobby chat, and I can't seem to scroll.

You have some real interesting ones though dies

Game Design / Re: Making the Best FFA Rating System
August 01, 2010, 08:21:19 AM MT
The people that know me will know that I've now officially given up on the ranking system, since for me it's really not friendly towards how I play this game. I mostly play, 'it's all or nothing' and that means I lose a 'lot' of games if the dice bugger me.

Because of that, my rating is hardly complimentary. I 'can' play more conservitively if I so choose and I'm pretty damn good at putting together a good hand then unleashing it at the right moment, as anyone who plays me regularly will tell you. So what I'm saying is, if I just copied the play of some of those at the top of the leaderboard, sure given time I'd be right up with you guys. But where the hell is the fun in that? I enjoy the game the way I play it. And it's a style I'll never drop just to climb the luck-ladder.

As Vin said, I know who the top players are, I don't need the ranked ladder to tell me.

It's un-needed and really does cause a lot of stupid tension in the game which could be avoided. I think dies proposal of just keeping the win/loss overall is a good one. Drop the ladder, drop ranked games, just have both ranked and unranked wins and losses underneath your name and go from there.

Bit of an older topic I know but here's mine;

Tabletop : Warhammer Fantasy (Lots and lots, I was crazy into this growing up.)
Warhammer 40K (Not so much, prefered the Fantasy game.)
D&D (Been in a bunch of different groups, one ran for 3 years every week, was great fun.)
Hero Quest

Computer : Shining Force Series
Vandal Hearts Series
Fire Emblem Series
Tactics Advance
Warcraft Series
Age of Empires Series
Age of Mythology Series
Master of Olympus Series
Command and Conquer Series
And 'lots' of others that don't immediately spring to mind. (I'm a gamer through and through.)

Card/Book etc: Magic the Gathering (I got a load of my friends into this for a few years we ended up with a communal collection of about 30 different decks and ran our own tournaments, etc.)
Fighting Fantasy! (What a fantastic series, miss it a lot.)
Pokemon (Yeah, I went there. I actually was the first person in my area to have the cards, a LONG time before it became crazy popular, my auntie got me a deck for my birthday and at first I was like, 'yeah, sod this for a game of soldiers.' LOL)

Oh and I also joined a 'L.A.R.P' group for a bit... haha, the first time I went this guy 'killed' me because I wasn't 'roleplaying' enough. (If you don't know what L.A.R.P stands for, google it and see for yourself.)
