General Chat / Re: What happened?
July 10, 2014, 07:21:14 PM MT
I think everyone took a break with summer.  I have been mia with some sickness in the family as well I had a few days where I was addicted to 'A dark room'. It isnt as epic as Hero Mages and not repeatable.  HM will probably always remain my favorite iphone game, I have had quite a few games, even some TBS come and go, but I always come back here.
Been playing for close on 3 years now, havent gotten bored yet.  There is always some new combo or strategy I find or that someone shows me.

Every once in a while I look at my game listings and I see a completely unexpected "Destiny Awaits".  Usually it is someone pulling off something really clever and getting just the right rolls. It always makes me smile.  I thought I would post a thread to see if other people came across these moments to give their foes a tip of the hat.

Today's Episode goes to dawilli33: 80531

It is a quick one and I thought I had him beat, which made the win even cooler.

I would like to see an option in the game where you can manage things a little better with cards as well...so a match where Old balls just gets manipulation spells or sorceress just gets destruction.  Or thin things down, as a summoner give up aug spells to thin the deck for more summon spells.

This begs the question,  for each mage, is there an unbeatable hand?  lvl 1, 10, or 15.  Complicated question...

It comes back around my good man.  Once people hit their 30s you start ironing out items and getting regular groups. 20s are nice but too hectic.
Right now we have a group that plays once a month 'Risk Legacy'.  That is campaign based risk, everything you do is permenant for the life of the boardgame...pretty intense.  So you get a group of guys who can dedicate themselves to 15 games.

Battle Blog / What's in a name?
June 18, 2014, 01:03:56 PM MT
Ok we have some interesting names and I try to guess what they are or where they came from.  Here is mine.

DigitalBlacksmith (avatar is traditionally megaman running 8 bit):
Has been my handle for probably a decade or so, before that I was RRah1, I switched to DigitalBlacksmith back when I was in slashdot forums and someone in a discussion mentioned how they are kind of a digital blacksmith with their job.  The term really resonated with me as I am a system's administrator and am known for coming up with really creative solutions to very complex problems.  My handle is fairly well known in communities like spiceworks and if you are a techy person you probably have seen items written by me.

Seems to be working well.  I am a sysadmin by trade so if you need help let me know, I specialize in Cloud migrations so if you want to get out to a EC2/RDS I can help you there :)
Anything to keep the game smooth and running!

Ahhh life is better in the game when you can think the worst, eg it isn't me, the game must be rigged :)
was meant in jest :)

Bugs & Support / End Turn Bug
June 05, 2014, 12:14:03 PM MT
Games not ending appropriately.

This has happened a couple of times but this time irritated me as it cost me the game.  I end a turn and the game doesn't record the last few moves and stays on your turn.  This game I ended my turn, went on to a couple others, then the game came back around and I thought that I forgot to end my turn. So I hit end turn, what I forgot to do was verify that my shield and heal had taken place.
You are welcome to the free win Cragalanche although I am getting suspicious of the number of 7 sprints you are using.

Ya Trinity Caverns is broken as a map. I have wiped out nearly an entire team without my opponent taking a turn and have had numerous turn 1 kills.
Check Game #79717 for a nearly perfect game.

I am pretty sure this game could get wildly poplular if some energy would be put into it.  I would be happy to help out in anyway I could on the sysadmin side (been doing sysadmin work for close on 15 years now) But I imagine Ross just has gotten too busy with life to keep up on more than maintenance with this game.  With the increased interest lately in games like Hearthstone there is no reason that with a little push we couldnt make this popular.
Heck I have been wanting at least a minotaur or something new to play with and i have been on this game for over 3 years.

I feel like the old guy in this game, 34 here, I am just glad people put up with me.  If you want to know why I make erratic moves here and there it is usually because I am trying to squeeze a turn in while putting kids to sleep or waiting for a server to reboot...or just kicking back at work with a beer...which may lead to more bad decisions than good ones. (yes we drink beer at my workplace).
