Feature Requests / Banner idea + random drop

A rough idea which I am calling banners for lack of a better term.

A banner would only have one use per game. The example I would use would be a "movement banner" once per game you can click the banner and it would allow you to move one unit one extra square.

A "damage banner" might add 2 attack dice to any units attack but again it could only be activated once per battle. Others would have similiar effects I imagine as being low power but useful (Health and so on).

I would also make a banner one use only (ever) meaning once you use it its gone from inventory forever.

I was thinking of having them randomly drop in game a certain number of times per day. Off top of my head say 3, so at 3 random different times during a day whoever is playing a game in the lobby would recieve a "banner".

basically it would be a reward for playing and being active, and in certain game types you could use "banners". I like the idea of playing and at a random time the game your playing might reward you with something, They would be one use only so once you used it you would have to get another through playing and getting a random drop.

You could make it a setting to activate if you wanted to use them when setting up a game, and I dont think they would be game changing at all if left to a low power level. Also by setting them to only drop a few times a day and only to people who are in game they wont be super common to get.

No idea how that would be on programming side to fit in and im sure it would take some game testing, but just an idea to see anyone elses thoughts.

General Chat / Rank removal ?

I have been pondering the ranking system for awhile now and I am leaning towards wanting to get rid of it all together. I dont think it adds anything to the game and when people start cheating just to get it and sorta destroy the whole thing anyway.

I like having the stats for individual units and such but I think everyone knows the good players ya know ? sorta dont need a rank to tell you that. I have seen rank systems in games actually be bad for the game as a whole so it may be something to think about.

I see heromages as a gentleman's game where rank isnt as important as how you played. This game gets lots of responses about having a great community and I think that is a rare video game commodity and something that should be kept and grown as much as possible for the health of the game. If something like not having a rank system helps then im all for it. I want to see heromages avoid some of the traps that have plagued other games.

I do know some others have brought this up before but I didnt find the thread. Anyone else feel similar ? or does it feel like removing rank is something to radical ?

As far as cheating I say make sure they are punished harshly, tolerating that stuff only lets it fester.

Bugs & Support / Psion - mind control bug

Twice in one game and once in another I used mind control and successfully attacked, the unit that was taken could not move but his feet moved in place.

Dont have any more info at the time but I will screen shot it if it happens again.

How about a mvp award for the game for like the unit that made the most kills, or most damage or mix.


Be interesting to have a stat on your units how many mvps they have.

Well I started workin on map maker, first these two maps are for 3v3.

Please check them out and make and play them if you can. I think we need to get more playable maps so all feedback is welcome.

I will resize these later to fit on screen.

Suggestions & Comments / How about a tourney set up ?

How about some simple tournaments ?

I think the ranking system right now is pretty solid but i think it runs into issues with people wanting to play high ranks and high ranks not wanting to play lows.

Some simple tourneys with perhaps some profile awards, avatars or something would be a good thing. I think it would give some people a chance to win something even if they dont have enough time to get high rank.

I think little things like that might get additinal interest and may make for some more active nights when a tourney day rolls around - and who doesnt like profile awards ?

Perhaps later the tourneys could could be linked to a map for territory or perhaps to explore and find peices of history from the land.

Just thinking outloud let me know your thoughts.

Just wanted to say I enjoy the new changes it sort of smoothes out a lil more of the gameplay but is still keeping the core of what makes the game fun.

I will be around playing with the changes and enjoying the new unit.

I illustrated the minotaur so i get to feel special for a lil bit and play with the first one given out :)

hope you all think he looks cool - i did not illustrate the sprite animations but i thought they came out awsome so kudos to whoever did.

See you all on the battlefield - i will be testing these units out

Suggestions & Comments / A few ideas

Just a few ideas I had that I think may be interesting.

Perhaps future units or even existing ones get an ability that cost a card to use but it is only a once a game ability. I am thinking something along the lines of a warrior unit gets "axe throw" and is allowed one time to make a distance attack.

I like the shared deck of cards and how it works in this game so I don't really care for having custom decks, but perhaps later on it might be interesting to be able to pick ONE special card or something. Obviously nothing overpowered but something small that may allow you to sorta personalize your mage a little.

I am not one to seek a lot of change in a game, I think it takes lots of playing to get a good grip on the full potential of any unit or combo so change or additions should be small and slow. Like I see allot of people talk about first round mage kills which I personally have never had happen to me and don't think I have ever done and im a rushing fool lol.

I have been running these 3 units almost exclusively in ranked battles and here are some of my thoughts on this warband.

I have two main reasons for running these units, movement and the amount of dice rolled from attacks. I play a very aggressive style so I want all my units to be able to attack and the movement abilities of all three add to distance I can move, Which I find crucial in bringing all my attacks on a single unit and giving my opponent more worries when he is placing his units.

FM - has highest defense and attack dice of mages so i like to get him into actual battles instead of holding him back like most other mages. His teleport ability allows for lots of added movement when needed and can get you out of tight spots that other mages cant move out of so easily. His ability to buff himself or particularly the barbarian adds to the amount of attack dice rolled when going in for a kill. In most early battles If the person doesn't have a fighter mage your not worried about the mage hitting you in combat you are only really worried about his spells, I tend to view that as having a half inactive unit. The more dice you roll the more chances you give yourself at hitting a target, I find that to be the one thing I think about most - it takes luck to hit so give yourself the best chance of getting lucky.

Psion - I love this unit, first for his ability to move an enemy towards my mage and barbarian each who have the ability to move closer to a unit than most others, If I pull a unit 5 spaces closer then my barbarian moves 5 then charges 4 more its a total of 14 spaces, so that ability combines well with FM buffs and barbarians ability to charge and attack another opponent after he gets a kill - More attack dice!!. His second ability of psionic blast is great at hitting high armor since it always hits on 14 if you use that attack in addition to his standard attack he has 5 attack dice - as always give yourself more chances to get lucky.

Barbarian - This unit is just plain fun and scary, he has the things I want most in  unit, high attack dice at 4 and the ability to move an extra 4. He also gets an additional attack if he kills a unit so that adds to the amount of dice he can roll. I find him to to work well with both psion for pulling units closer and FM to buff him and send him out like a wrecking ball.

I find with this group it also can give the enemy trouble with which unit to target - are you worried about the psion who can move your units ? the barbarian who can move great distance and get buffed into a terror ? or the FM who can move in and out of battle while buffing everyone and leads the group ?

Just a few thoughts but overall I think its the most potent group and gives you the ability to charge fast and bring all those attack dice to into play.

Game Balance / Staggered turn rotation when playing teams

It seems to me that it should not start out one whole team moves then another, I think it should always stagger the teams turns.

Most boards you can pin both teams in with summons and such.

Whats your thoughts ?

When you are in battle and click log button in bottom left corner the menu comes up in center of screen, now I like this menu but I wish I could move it around or even perhaps pull it off as a new window.

Don't know how feasible that is but I would like it for 4 player games in particular, see the rolls and effects.

It might be cool later to have long term stats for summons like you do for heros and gaurdians. Not exactly a pressing or important issue, but I am curious to see how those units perform also.

Was wonder if anyone started to develop a favorite warband ?

Right now I have been enjoying Summoner with samurai and paladin.

The summons I use as blockers while moving my guardians into position, and the paladin helps heal summons and the other warband members.

Just bought the rest of the heros, I played 2 games then had to have them lol. Getting used to all the features on the user interface, Its cool cause you have a lot going on. I liked the stats you can keep on your champs.
