Meeting Place / Live gaming session on Easter Sunday!
March 28, 2018, 09:27:03 PM MT
Hi all!
Since we cannot enjoy the beta of Summoners Fate just yet, I propose to all to join a HERO MAGES live gaming session this Sunday!  ;D
For former fans, this is a unique opportunity to put a few more hours in this tremendous game, playing with real players, maybe even reconnecting with former friends and foes!
For those who don't know Hero Mages, you can learn first hand what Ross was able to pull out by himself about 10 years ago. There is a "spectator" feature built in, so you can watch games real time (or even replay some). Be sure to install the app beforehand from the Apple store or Google Play, and create an account. And if you're tempted to try the game for yourself, I'm sure we can get a few volunteers to teach you the basics (it's not as easy to learn as Summoners Fate is, but it's sure addictive once you're past that).
So let's meet this Sunday at 2 PM MDT (9PM Western Continental Europe).
Come and join the fun!  :D

Meet in the game's lobby at 8 PM CDT
Sorry it's late for our European friends (3 AM Western European time), but we have to give everybody a chance!

Looking forward to meeting many of you on the battlefield!

Battle Blog / Back from hell
May 04, 2015, 09:47:40 PM MT
Fellow players,

Tonight I started an uphill battle with bots, just for the fun of it. 3v4. After what seemed an okay beginning, it soon started to look grim. Then very grim! I was left with my 2 hp sorceress against:
2 mages
5 guardians!
and 4 elementals!!!!
(See snapshot)

But she was no sissy. She saw the last of them all...

Enjoy with game replay #86668. And do share similar surprise redemptions!

Bugs & Support / FFA leaderboard bug?
December 23, 2014, 09:47:28 AM MT
Hello,

I completed game #83515 a few days ago. Being victorious, it earned me #1 spot in the FFA leaderboard, and a nice move upward in overall one.  But this game didn't go off my game list (maybe because the other players haven't checked it yet? ). It still shows "Destiny awaits". The problem is,  my scores in the leaderboards keep raising, apparently as if each time I opened the game it counted victory points again.
Could you please take a look and see what's going on?

Thanks

Battle Blog / Valor high scores
December 20, 2014, 06:21:19 PM MT
Hello fellow players,

I just finished a disputed 8 players FFA (#83515), and broke my personal valor record: 56!
I feel pretty smug about it (doesn't take much apparently...), but thought it would be interesting to see what others have achieved.

Dig out these long battles, you mages, during which tenacity, skill and courage (we will not mention sheer luck here, although sometimes...) earned you the recognition of the brave: Legendary Valor!

Our in plain langage: please share you top games for the enjoyment of the community!

Thanks

Battle Blog / Where's the undo button!!!
August 11, 2014, 10:13:35 PM MT
Fellow players,

Have you ever stared in disbelief at what you just played? Been amazed at your own blunders? Uttered in shock "what the hell was I thinking?" In short, wished there was an undo button?

I have.

So if you don't mind a bit of self deprecation, please share your stories. I'll feel less lonely and stupid. And we may even have a laugh in the process!

I'll go first with my biggest of late:
I was playing a game against Archancient (#81507). It seemed a pretty good start for me, having taken down his barbarian without damage. But Archancient is no rookie. He soon had me gasping, my mage with one HP left and a revived barbarian on his heels...
This is when (devilish me) I devised a subtle move combination allowing one of my guardians to kill the barbarian, my mage to flash adjacent to his and to attack him, and finally to cast a blizzard, stunning his two characters. Ha!
The following second I realized how stupid it was to place my 1 HP mage adjacent to a stunned... fighter mage! who could still move and attack...
And I don't get the newcomer excuse: I logged way over 50 games playing a fighter mage. Even worse: one turn before this blunder I used this very ability to escape after being stunned by Archancient!
Pitiful, that's all it is.

So, any other volunteer?

Battle Blog / Who will emerge as the challenger?
August 07, 2014, 09:29:09 PM MT
Interesting duel leaderboard, tonight:

1 Q666 with 1463 (still lonely ahead of everybody)
2 Echoron with 1367
3 Archancient with 1363
4 Mowg with 1362
5 Scribe with 1352 (yours truly)    ;-)
6 Dawili33 with 1350

And then it drops to1284

With 5 players within a mere 17 points of each others, the battle for second place could be interesting!
So:

Who will emerge as the hero mage able to challenge Q666?

(OK, I got this sentence somewhere, I know...)

What about a round of organized 1v1 among the contenders (rather than random games), until one stands out?
I'm just trying to make it fun and build interest, guys. I hope you'll join the fun!

Bugs & Support / Game won... but lost!! Weird bug
August 07, 2014, 09:03:30 PM MT
Hi Ross,

Please see game #81420.
It started as an offline mage duel against Mastermind762, but we happened to meet online and finish it.
Towards the end of the game the other mage was alone and had two HP left. I then cast 2 skeletons. I moved the the first one onto the mage and dealt him 1 damage. I moved the second one, attacked, and dealt another damage, killing the opponent mage, a clear victory.
But at this instant the game froze on me. After several attempts, I managed to get back on, only to discover that the game didn't end! I found the other player waiting for me, and with only the first of my skeletons moved! I tried the same move again, but this time the opponent survived the attack, and subsequently defeated me.

I'm confused by this bug. How is it even possible when all the moves are allegedly managed from a log?
Is it that the moves are performed locally, then queued for logging on the server? I could see a rationale for this for performance, instead of having the server perform these operations. But this would be a door for this kind of bug, or even potential exploits.
Anyway, apart from my random guesses above, the conclusion is similar to the one in this earlier bug report: sometimes both players don't see the same events at each end of a live game.
Kind of annoying for a live game...

Thanks

Battle Blog / 1v1 full team full HP win
May 16, 2014, 10:24:49 PM MT
Fellow players,

Since I'm in a posting spree, let's have this other one:
I once cleared the duel battlefield with leaving my mage, two guardians, and even an additional flesh golem all with full HP! And please, this was not against some bot or beginner messing up and casting a fireball on his own team. It was against Worldchamp, no less!

Game #78024

Any success story? Please share!

Battle Blog / The ideal string of cards
May 16, 2014, 09:18:08 PM MT
Hi,

On this duel with IveGotACaseOfTheMage I felt my initial hand of cards was good. On turn two it became even better, so I felt I should be bold and go for it with my fighter mage.
Alas! My sprint roll was bad, and I backed up, my FM half exposed   :( Fortunately I managed to buff it some and hoped.
This alleged misfortune actually lured my opponent out of his stronghold, and to his doom! But this wasn't without drawing the one card I needed with my last mana.

Sorry, IveGotACaseOfTheMage, card gods were favoring me this time...

Battle Blog / 1v1 first turn mage kill
May 16, 2014, 08:58:48 PM MT
Hi all,

I was pretty pleased at taking my revenge on dawilli33 the other day. In our previous duel he/she deftly turned tables on me. But this time I didn't leave it a single chance...
See game #79648.

Do you have similar stories to share?

Feature Requests / Leaderboard history
May 08, 2014, 09:56:01 AM MT
Unless I missed it there seems to be no way of retracing one's progression in the rankings, neither to know exactly how many points you earned or lost in a game unless you recorded your previous rankings on the side.
A fairly easy improvement could be to list one's ranking below each completed ranked game in the game list. I think it would be nice and might encourage more players to remain active (don't we all want a thriving community of active players?).
