Bugs & Support / Re: IMPORTANT: Sprint Exploit
February 07, 2013, 02:15:45 AM MT
Yeah this is a critical bug that affects gameplay, I like the random element in the sprint (because it allows risk management decisions :p), but it should be logged by the system so that if you log out and try again you get the same number, basically the same it is already happening for dices.

Feature Requests / Chat log for async games
January 29, 2013, 12:09:02 AM MT
I think it would be nice (and fun) to have the possibility to write something in the chat during async games, knowing that your opponent will see it when it is its turn. Basically the chat would be added to the log and played during the action replays. Of course there should be a limit to avoid spam (like 1 message per turn or something).

What do you guys think? I think it could be fun when playing with friends or in group battle to have some sort of communication for diplomacy. Also, since it would be logged, it would make easier to punish people abusing it (just make a flag to de-activate this feature for the account).

Trinity Caverns: I played a game recently on this map, I went second and one of my guardians was killed before my first turn. I ended up winning that game anyway, but it was not nice to be unable to prevent that in any way. At least my opponent had to sprint and to expose himself, so maybe it can be considered a high risk/high reward maneuver, I will keep an eye on this map.

Infernus: I have to agree on this one, if you start top left and your opponent is bottom right you can unload spells on his top guardian and then sprint to safety, that is basically free damage with 0 risks that he can't avoid.

Perilous Waste: I don't love this map either, but at least it is the same situation for both teams. You really want to play the wizard here :)

On par? Oh yes...definitely.

A fully valored Wizard is often the most deadly adversary. I've defeated entire parties with only my Wizard left. And...it's just so gratifying to see that crazy old man just warp in and own with a crazy spell combo.

When he gets to 15 valor I start yelling "Gandalf Mode ON" !!! :D

The next day after this post i think your FM moved into perfect position and blizzarded my whole party.  I think I would have been in trouble even if the psion died.

Yeah Blizzard is a game change card, but I think that it was easier to hit everything with it because you had to over attack that psion, anyway... sometimes dices can change everything and I guess that game was the best example of it :)

Well that was our last game, I got extremely lucky!

General Chat / Re: Pally's Bless ability removes Taunt?

Same for Minotaur's roar.

But I am not sure if we should nerf the paladin, honestly I like it this way. (SR is already very strong...)

I agree that the Fighter Mage is probably a little bit too strong. For sure it is the easiest to play. I would not mind he to have 1 less def or 1 less atk(as long as you can still roll 4 dices if you flash, that would force him to use more cards and cast less, or to just play with 3 dices atk)

About the Wizard... I don't agree he is the weakest. You just have to play very defensively and to focus or building some decent combo (discard cards and don't cast on turn 1 etc...). At that point you force your opponent to be aggressive, because if he just waits you will have some insane combo in your hand. When your opponent is aggressive, he has to take more risks, so you can take advantage of them. The wizard is the more difficult mage to play, and it forces you to play defensively... but after some turns he can roll out crazy combos, it takes less cards than you think... in fact it only takes 1 good turn with the mage to turn a game.

Bugs & Support / Re: Game stuck in waiting for null
January 19, 2013, 11:36:00 PM MT
Hi Ross,

after 5 days the game just says "Able to drop null", but there is not a drop button for any player, so we are basically stuck in it.

Suggestions & Comments / Re: How to grow community?
January 17, 2013, 03:59:28 AM MT
This game deserves a bigger community. It is well designed, polished and, being a software engineer myself, I can understand how much work is just for 1 person.

I started to play recently, so I think I can offer a fresh opinion of what I think should be done to lock in more players. Also, I am trying my best to propose easy and simple things. I also want to add that I introduced 4 friends to this game already, so I had a chance to discuss with them and that was useful because, being myself very addicted to tactical fantasy game, it helped me to see things from a different and slightly more casual player point of view.

1) Why the free version app is only available to the Android market and not iOS? If possible, I think it would help to have it on the iOS market as well.

2) The tutorial is awesome! Unfortunately after that the game could potentially lose new players. I had a friend that after it wanted to try a live game, did not find anyone and told me "I don't think anyone play this game". It took me a while to explain that it is better to use the async play (random opponent), to explain him why it is actually better to play in that way (you can still play in real time there, and stop whenever you need to) etc etc Now he is loving the game, but without me explaining things to him... he would just be a quitting player. I think that the game should STRONGLY point new people towards the async play, not the live one. Especially because the community is small at the moment, but big enough to enjoy async games.

3) The game should "look" more populated, appearance is everything. The chat is often empty or few populated, I think it should be replaced with an async chat with a log... like a simple IRC :) That way people can use it to ask for invites etc... Maybe a couple of channels, like General, Help for Noobs and if Ross wants to read it also Support.
For the same reason this forum needs to be re-organized. To come here and see that many sections did not have posts for months it is just a bad first look. The number of sections should be reduced and consolidated. Also add a counter like "Recent games completed:" and query the db with a date range big enough to have a decent number there.

4) There are 2 bugs that should be prioritized. The one that sometimes bought expansions are not correctly added to the account (very bad first impression for new players) and the one that can leave some games in "waiting for null" status (I posted about this in the Bug section). You really want to make sure that newbies have a good experience.

5) Since the community is not very big yet, it happens too often that a newbie is matched against an experienced player in their first games, they got crushed and because of that they got discouraged. This is difficult to solve because probably there are not enough newbies to guarantee a quick match making for them. Maybe they should receive a bonus on their first games and they should be forced to be unranked (that way if they win because of that, it won't drive other players mad), like 5 games or so.

6) We need to gain visibility, I got to know this game while googling something else lol. But this should be done after 1-5 are ready.

I am trying to bring some friends to play and everyone enjoy the game, but only after I spend time to explain them a lot of things and to direct them to enjoy the game in the right way. All of them were going to quit because the game seemed without a player base, but that is not truth. It just appears so, and I think that should be changed.

Thanks!

Is there a time limit to submit turns? What if the opponent just stop playing?

Bugs & Support / Game stuck in waiting for null
January 14, 2013, 04:24:44 PM MT
Game 50435 is stuck, it says waiting for null, I can see the last turn of my opponent but I can't perform any action, it will say that is not possible in replay mode.
It looks like a bug, can it be fixed or cancelled?
