1  Hero Mages Community Boards / Suggestions & Comments / Dispel and Imprision? on: September 05, 2012, 01:24:53 AM MT

I'd expect Dispel to work on Imprision. It doesn't seem to do so. Is it a bug? The text on the cards doesn't seem to suggest it doesn't.

See attached screenshots.

(Moved from another thread where I had posted this, just to say +1)

One thing that I find lacking, though, is that the chat function doesn't really work Async either. I would expect to be able to chat - or send a message - to my opponent during the match. Several times I wanted to congratulate him on something he did, or just let him know that usually getting in the line of sight of a ranged unit is a tricky thing, but I'm not sure he ever got those messages.

I was wondering if you wouldn't consider either store those messages, and notify people that "You have a message. Click the 'Chat' button to read them" - or maybe show them in the main "Chat" menu. There's a notification/number icon frequently in the "Chat Lobby" icon, but I can't tell what its purpose is.

Hi Ross,

Just to tell you I'm loving the update - finally I can get some serious multiplayer matches going on with people.

(Edit: removed the PM feature request and moved it to the right thread)

A few questions: why doesn't it save my preferred heroes and match type? I have to manually add them every time.

And why can't I really select the type of game I want to play unless it's with friends? I should be able to select either whether I want to customize my game in Random match, or join one that's in the queue. This makes it impossible for anyone without friends to play a match with more than one player - like a team match - or am I missing something?

Finally, I'm wondering if you would be willing to share what's the increase in number of games played, and even new players and new factions sold Smiley We are all rooting for you, as you hopefully know Smiley Well, even if you can't - even if on a high or partial level, - I hope all is going well.

Cheers, and good job!

Hmm, interesting. I had never considered it, though I'd also then ask if it wouldn't make sense for her to be able to use it in any direction she would want.

Hm, ok, hopefully it'll get done soon Smiley

So far it's great. I wonder, though - is our turn really only submitted when we finish it? That could certainly be exploitable :l I'd expect all our moves - and dice - to be running server-side.

Also, I may have run into a small bug, see this screenshot. I'm playing a 1 vs 1 with StormCrow, it seems, but it shows as 1 vs 3?

Hi Ross,

Congrats on the async update release - I just installed it in my device.

I was wondering, though: do we not get notifications on Android asides from the email ones?

Having friends on Hero Mages only to start it off would be fine with me.

But you seem to have it all thought out! Smiley

Hi Ross,

So yes, the way you put it makes perfect sense, and I believe that's the way it should be. I won't give you more comments to get you into more work Smiley

One suggestion I'd make is to allow us to add friends directly in game. I'm not sure if you're using Game Center on iOS, but it'd be as simple as opening Game Center when someone clicks on it.

Where do we set up these friend lists? Are these heromages.com friends? I'm wondering how you'll reconcile iOS, Android and web.

Cheers, and keep up the great work.

Hi Ross,

I'm happy to hear that the game is making progress, though I'm sorry about the latest troubles you ran into, especially with the baby in the mix. :|

By all means, take your time. I do believe that invitations should be the way to go - playing against random opponents is fine, I guess, but playing against friends is where it shines.

As for the Android notifications, I'm sure there must be some other way currently to pull that off - after all, there are many applications that get instant notifications and they work properly. I believe there's a new version of the API, which you can look up here: https://developer.android.com/guide/google/gcm/index.html

It does seem to do what you need. Or are you at a roadblock because you first need Adobe to support that new API out of the box?

Either way, good luck with it - hope all goes well! And congrats on the PAXDev gig Smiley

Hi Ross,

How are things? Hope everything's great.

This week saw the release of Summoner Wars on iOS, a game that very much reminded me of Hero Mages, so I thought I would ask how are things shaping up for the update?

Also, if you have the chance, I can certainly suggest you look into Summoner Wars as well - it might be a kind of game you like.

Cheers mate, hope all is well with the family, and I hope to hear from you and Hero Mages soon!

Hi Ross,

Thanks - that is even a better suggestion than mine! Just make sure the preferences are stored between matches - that would rock Smiley

12  Hero Mages Community Boards / Feature Requests / Custom Battles - Random Settings on: April 20, 2012, 04:09:36 AM MT
Hi Ross,

First of all, thanks for the great game! I've been having a blast since I started playing it on my Android phone!

One thing I kind of miss is the possibility to actually play a fully random match - mode, teams, etc. I was expecting the Quick Battle to be a random battle, but it turns out it's always 1vs1.

The Custom Battles, though, while they have some options that allow you to select "Random" such as Start Zones and Heroes, I would like it for the Teams, Map Layout and Objective to also have a Random option. This way one could actually have fully Random matches, and be surprised by the game, instead of having to explicitly choose those parameters. It would also be great if these settings were saved between sessions - so that one could quickly jump into their Custom Battles with their default options already set.

At the start of the match a small caption could show up stating the type of match in question, so that the player is aware.

Would this be something you would consider for a future update?

Thank you very much, and cheers.

Oh, I see. I guess that in the mobile screen the colors in the character outfits, from the top, aren't really that noticeable - but now that you pointed it out, I can vaguely distinguish them Smiley

Looking forward to learning the basics so that then I can play with some of you online!
14  Hero Mages Community Boards / Bugs & Support / Re: Bugs with v1.7 on: April 16, 2012, 09:36:23 AM MT

Newcomer here, so bear with me. I'm playing 1.72 on Android, and I noticed an option statin "Show Team Markers", but can't understand what it does.

On the changelog I read "Improvement: Improved the visual appearance of team markers by making them gradiented squares that rest underneath the units vs. the subtle/hard to see reticle indicator.", so I wanted to ask if there was an option that somehow allowed these supposed team markers to be always present in the board, even in single player mode, all the time, since sometimes it's hard to keep track of which characters you control in the board, and which belong to which team.

I tried a single-player match with 2 and 3 teams, and watching an online match, and nothing showed up that allowed me to identify which character belongs to each team, unless I would click on them. :|

If I'm missing something really obvious, please let me know Smiley

Paulo (coming from Touch Arcade)

Actually, after playing a bit more, I finally got it. It only shows up on Team matches - and I was playing Free for All.

I guess I kind of expected those markers to represent the colors of the player controlling them - i.e. in Free for All you'd have each player with each color.

Now I don't really know if it makes sense anymore, since it might get confusing... I was just looking for an easy way to spot my characters and the opponent's ones. Anyone care to share their thoughts - or do you usually have no problem keeping track of them?
